The 3-3-3 rule is a way to plan one work day. Spend three hours on your most important piece of work. Then do three shorter tasks. Then handle three small chores, like email or planning tomorrow. Nine things, in a shape a real day can hold.
Where it comes from
The writer Oliver Burkeman made the rule popular. His point was simple. Most days fill up with small things before the big thing gets started. So start with the big thing, and give it a block of time that nothing else can take.
How to run it
- Pick the big thing the night before. One piece of work. Not "work on the report." Something you can finish, like "write the first draft of the report."
- Protect the three hours. Mornings work best for most people. Close chat. Tell the team when you will be back.
- Do the three tasks after. A review, a reply that needs thought, a fix. Each one under an hour.
- Chores last. Email, filing, booking things, planning tomorrow. One block, not all day.
What it does for a team
If each person names their three-hour task in the morning, a manager knows what will move today without asking. And at the end of the day there is a finished thing to look at, not just a busy afternoon.
Where M-Tracker fits
The three-hour block works best when it has a brief: what the result is, who it is for, what it must include. In M-Tracker, that block is a task with a brief. When the work is done, the person sends it for a review, and M-Tracker checks it against the brief in one plain paragraph. The timer shows how the three hours were spent. Deep work, with proof it landed.

Questions people ask
Is it the same as the 3-3-3 rule at work?
Mostly. At work, people often use it for a day. Some use the same shape for a week: three big projects, three medium, three small.
What if my job is all small tasks?
Batch them. Ten small tasks of the same kind can be one "big thing" if you do them in one block.
Does it work for managers?
Yes. The big block might be a decision, a plan, or reviewing the team's work properly instead of in bits.
Work you can trust, without redoing it.
Your team gets feedback before work reaches you, or your client.
