Keep track of four things: what each task was supposed to produce, when the work was sent, whether it met the brief, and how long it took. Look at them once a week. That tells you what was produced and what it cost, with nobody watching a screen.
The four things
Briefs. One line per task that says what done looks like. Without this, nothing else can be judged.
Work sent. The file or link, with a time. This is the output.
Review. Did it match the brief? What came back, and why? This is the quality.
Hours. Time by task, entered by the person. This is the cost.
The weekly routine
Thirty minutes, same time each week. Open the list of work sent. For each piece, note accepted or returned, and the hours. Then look for patterns, not people. If three pieces came back for the same reason, the brief is the problem. If one person's hours are double everyone else's, ask what is in the way.
What not to track
Screens, keystrokes, active time, mouse movement. They tell you someone was at a desk. They do not tell you anything was produced, and they cost you the trust of the people who produce the most.
Where M-Tracker fits
M-Tracker keeps the four things in one place. Each task has a brief. The person sends the work and gets a plain review against the brief. The timer records hours by task and project. A manager opens one view on Friday and sees output, quality and cost for the week. No screenshots, no keystroke logging, no activity monitoring.
Try M-Tracker free14-day trial. No credit card. No employee surveillance.
Questions people ask
How do I track productivity for remote staff?
The same four things. Remote only changes where the work happens, not what it produces.
Should employees see their own numbers?
Yes, first. People fix what they can see.
What if the work is creative or hard to count?
The brief still says what done means. Count accepted pieces, and let the brief carry the judgment.
Work you can trust, without redoing it.
Your team gets feedback before work reaches you, or your client.
