There is no definitive list, and nobody can use 100 tips. The lists that go around online agree on about ten ideas, repeated in different words. Here they are, with the one habit that makes the other nine stick: decide what done looks like before you start.

Most of what feels urgent is not important.

The ten that every list contains

  1. Decide what done looks like before you start. Half of all wasted work is work that was never defined.
  2. Do the hardest thing first. Your best hour is early. Spend it on the thing you would avoid.
  3. Work in blocks. Two or three hours with chat closed beats eight hours of switching.
  4. Cap the list. One big thing, three medium, five small. If it does not fit, it is not today.
  5. Group the small stuff. Email twice a day, not forty times.
  6. Say no early. A no on Monday costs a sentence. A no on Friday costs a weekend.
  7. Make meetings pay. Every meeting has an owner, an outcome and an end time.
  8. Check work before sending it. Sixty seconds of checking saves a day of back-and-forth.
  9. Ask for feedback the same day. Late feedback is the most expensive kind.
  10. Finish before you start. Two things done beat five things half done.

Why the other ninety do not matter

Most of the remaining tips are tools, tricks or the same ideas in new clothes. A new app will not fix a list with no cap. A standing desk will not fix a task nobody defined. The ten above are habits. Habits compound. Tricks do not.

How M-Tracker helps

Where M-Tracker fits

Tip one and tip eight are the ones teams skip, because they take a little effort before and after the work. M-Tracker builds both in. Every task has a short brief that says what done looks like. When the work is sent, it is checked against that brief and the person gets a plain review right away. Defined before, checked after, with no extra meetings.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Which single tip gives the most?

Deciding what done looks like. It makes every other tip measurable.

Are the long lists harmful?

A little. They make productivity feel like a hobby instead of a few habits.

How many tips should a team adopt at once?

One a month. The team that adopts ten at once keeps none.
