A revision round is one cycle of feedback and changes. The work goes to the reviewer, comes back with notes, and is changed. If that happens twice before approval, the work had two revision rounds. Agencies often include two rounds in the price and charge for more.

1Glossary

In plain words

Send, get notes, change, send again. Each loop is one round. Small fixes like a typo usually do not count as a full round. A change to what the work says or does always counts.

An example

A design agency quotes a landing page with two revision rounds.

  • Round 1: The client asks for a new headline and a shorter form.
  • Round 2: The client asks to swap one photo.
  • Round 3 request: The client wants a new section. That is outside the two rounds, so the agency sends a change request with a price.

How many rounds to include

Two is common for creative work. One is enough for simple, well-briefed work. Write down in the contract:

  • How many rounds are included.
  • What counts as a round.
  • What happens after the last round, usually an hourly rate or a change request.

How to measure it

MeasureHow
Average rounds per deliverableTotal rounds ÷ deliverables
Rounds over contractDeliverables that went past the included rounds
Time per roundHours spent on each round

If the average is above two, look at the brief and the first review, not just the client.
