Cost of late feedback calculator
Work that waits for review is not free. See what the wait costs.
Why late feedback costs more than bad feedback
When you fix work the same day, you still remember it. The files are open. The reason for each choice is fresh. The fix takes minutes.
Three days later, you have moved on. You re-read everything. You re-open the files. You remember half of why you did what you did. The same fix takes an hour. And while the work waited, the person who needed it waited too.
How the math works
- Pieces waiting = pieces per week × days waiting ÷ 5.
- Pieces needing changes per month = pieces per week × 4 × share needing changes.
- Extra fix hours = those pieces × extra hours per cold fix.
- Waiting and chasing hours = people × hours per week × 4.
- Cost = (extra fix hours + waiting hours) × rate.
With the example numbers: 40 × 4 × 30% = 48 pieces a month need changes. Each costs an extra hour because it went cold: 48 hours. Ten people lose 2 hours a week waiting or chasing: 80 hours. 128 hours × $45 = $5,760 a month.
What is not in the number
Missed deadlines. The client who got the late version. The teammate who could not start. These are bigger than the hours, but harder to price. Treat the result as the floor.
The fix is not "review faster." It is "review first, automatically."
Managers cannot review forty things a week the same day. Nobody can. What they can do is make sure the first review happens without them.
In M-Tracker, when someone marks a task done, the review happens right then. It compares the work with the request and tells the person what is missing. They fix it while it is fresh. The manager reviews work that is already closer to right, and reviews it when they have time, without being the bottleneck.
