Most work that comes back wrong was not done badly. It was asked for badly. The person did what they understood. They understood less than you thought.

A good brief answers five questions. What is the result? Who is it for? What must it include? What must it not do? When is it due? If one answer is missing, the person will guess. Their guess is where the rework starts.

How to use it

  1. Paste the task the way you would send it right now.
  2. Say who will do it. A new hire needs more than a senior teammate.

Example

Before: "Can you make a flyer for the webinar? Need it by Friday."

The checker found:

  • Who is the flyer for? (new customers, or people who already use the product?)
  • Where will it be used? (email, LinkedIn, print?) Size and shape depend on this.
  • What must it say? (the date, the speaker, how to register?)
  • What must it not say? (prices, features not launched yet?)
  • Who approves it before it goes out?

After: "Make a flyer for the June 12 webinar for new customers. It will go in an email, so make it 600 pixels wide. It must show the date, the time in Eastern Time, the two speakers, and a Register button. Do not mention pricing. Send a draft to Dana by Thursday noon. Final is due Friday."

Same task. No guessing left.

What it cannot do

It does not know your business. It will not invent the date or the audience. It shows you the holes. You fill them.

How M-Tracker helps

Write every brief this way, in one place

In M-Tracker, a task holds the brief, the files, and the links. When the work is done, M-Tracker compares it with that brief. If the brief is thin, the review says so instead of guessing. Clear brief in, right work out.

FAQ

Questions people ask

My team is small. Do we really need briefs?

Small teams lose the most time to rework, because one person doing it twice is a big share of the week. A two-minute brief is cheaper than a redo.

Can I use this for AI prompts?

Yes. A clear brief for a person is also a clear prompt for an AI tool.
