Checking AI work  ·  3 min read

AI-assisted work is fine. Unchecked AI work is the problem. Look for eight signs: it answers a slightly different question, it is generic, facts or sources cannot be found, numbers do not add up, it ignores your context, it repeats itself, the tone is off for the reader, and it is too long. When you see them, send it back with the brief, not an accusation.

1Checking AI work

The eight signs

1. It answers a nearby question. You asked for a summary of June's results. You got a general guide to reporting. AI fills gaps in the brief with the most common version of the task.

2. It is generic. It could be about any company. No names, no numbers, no details from your project.

3. Facts and sources cannot be found. A statistic with no source. A quote nobody said. A study you cannot find.

4. The numbers do not add up. Totals that are wrong, percentages over 100, dates that do not match days.

5. It ignores context the person had. The client asked for no pricing, and pricing is in it. The team decided something last week, and the draft does not know.

6. It repeats itself. The same point three times in different words, especially in the opening and closing.

7. The tone is off. Too formal for a chat message, or too excited for a serious update. Phrases like "I hope this finds you well" or "in today's fast-paced world."

8. It is too long. Three paragraphs where two lines would do.

2Checking AI work

What it does not mean

None of these proves AI was used. People write generic, padded work too. And "AI detectors" are not reliable enough to judge anyone. So do not accuse. Review the work.

3Checking AI work

What to do when you see the signs

  1. Send it back with the brief. "This needs to answer the brief: June results for the client, one page, status first."
  2. Point to specific problems. "The 73% figure has no source. Please check or remove it."
  3. Set the expectation. "Using AI to draft is fine. Check facts and the brief before sending."
4Checking AI work

Prevent it

  • Write briefs that AI cannot fill with generic content: the reader, the facts, the must-haves.
  • Agree a simple AI use policy.
  • Ask people to check AI drafts with a tool like the free AI work checker before sending.

Review the work the same way

M-Tracker reviews finished work against its brief, however it was made. It points out what does not answer the brief and which claims need checking, before the work reaches you. No screenshots and no activity tracking.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Should I ban AI on my team?

No. Ban unchecked work. AI that is briefed well and checked carefully saves real time.

Can tools detect AI writing?

Not reliably. Judge whether the work is right, not how it was made.
