AI tools can state wrong facts with full confidence. Before AI-made work goes out, mark every number, date, name, quote, statistic and source. Check each one against something you trust. Delete anything you cannot check. It takes ten minutes for most documents.
Why AI gets facts wrong
AI writing tools predict likely words. A likely-sounding statistic is not the same as a true one. They also mix up dates, invent quotes, and cite sources that do not say what they claim, or do not exist.
Step 1: Highlight every fact
Go through the draft and mark:
- Numbers: percentages, prices, totals, growth rates.
- Dates: deadlines, launch dates, history.
- Names: people, companies, products, places.
- Quotes: anything in quotation marks.
- Claims: "studies show," "most companies," "the law requires."
- Sources and links.
Step 2: Check each one against something you trust
| Fact type | Check against |
|---|---|
| Your own numbers | Your dashboard, spreadsheet or report |
| Prices and features | The vendor's own website, today |
| Laws and rules | The government source (.gov) |
| Statistics | The original study, not a blog quoting it |
| Quotes | The original interview, talk or article |
| Links | Click them |
Step 3: Cut what you cannot check
If you cannot find a source in two minutes, delete it or rewrite it as your own view: "In our experience…" A vague true sentence beats a precise false one.
Step 4: Recheck the math
AI is often wrong on simple sums. If the draft says three numbers add up to a total, add them yourself. Check that percentages make sense.
Red flags
- Very round or very precise statistics with no source: "73% of managers…"
- Quotes from famous people that sound too perfect.
- Links that go to a homepage instead of the page cited.
- Dates and day names that do not match ("Monday, June 14, 2026" was a Sunday).
Use a checker to find what to check
The free AI work checker reads an AI draft next to what you asked for. It lists claims to verify and gaps in the answer. It does not check facts for you, but it shows you where to look.
A review step for every AI draft
M-Tracker gives finished work a first review against its brief, and flags claims and numbers worth checking before the work reaches the manager. A person still checks the facts. That is the design. No screenshots and no activity tracking.
Where M-Tracker fits

Questions people ask
Can I ask the AI to check itself?
It helps a little. It can still repeat its own mistake. Check against an outside source.
What about AI search tools with citations?
Better, but open the cited page and confirm it says what the draft claims.
