Staffing and recruiting  ·  3 min read

Watch the output, not the screen. For a remote recruiter, three questions tell you more than any activity report. Did the client accept the first submittal? Did the placement show up and stick? Did every candidate they screened hear back? Those three are visible from anywhere, they cannot be faked by wiggling a mouse, and they are what the client is paying for. Screen monitoring tells you a laptop was open. It cannot tell you the submittal was right.

Activity data and work evidence answer different questions.
1Staffing and recruiting

The worry, honestly

An owner with six recruiters at home cannot walk the floor. There is no overheard call, no glance at a screen, no sense of who is busy. The worry is real: "How do I know they are working?" Monitoring software answers that question with a number. Active 94 percent. The trouble is that it is the wrong question.

2Staffing and recruiting

The right question

"Is the work right, and is it getting done?" That has three answers you can see from anywhere.

1. First submittal accepted. Of the orders they worked this week, how many did the client want to meet the first candidate for? A remote recruiter reading orders properly gets this number up. One coasting does not.

2. Placements that stick. Did Monday's starts show up, and are they still there Friday? A recruiter who confirms properly the night before has a high number. The confirmation note is visible; you can read it.

3. Candidates who heard back. Of the people they screened, how many got an update within two days? Ask them for the promise list. Spot-check two names.

Three numbers, once a week, per recruiter. They take ten minutes to pull and they describe the work, not the chair.

3Staffing and recruiting

The weekly habit that replaces monitoring

Monday, 20 minutes, each recruiter: last week's three numbers, the submittals that were sent back and why, and this week's hottest orders. No activity report. No screenshots. The conversation is about the work, and the recruiter knows exactly what good looks like.

A remote recruiter whose numbers are good is working, wherever they are. One whose numbers are slipping needs a look at their submittals, not their screen.

4Staffing and recruiting

Why monitoring backfires on a recruiting desk

Recruiters are measured by relationships and judgment. Watching their screen tells them you do not trust either. The good ones leave for a firm that measures placements. The ones who stay learn to keep the status light green. Activity goes to 100 percent and placements go nowhere.

How M-Tracker helps

Where M-Tracker fits

M-Tracker makes the three numbers visible without watching anyone. Each submittal and confirmation is read against the written order before the client sees it, so the manager knows which orders got accepted work first time and which confirmations had gaps. No screenshots, no keystroke logging, no activity scores. The owner sees the work from anywhere, and the recruiter's home office stays their own.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is monitoring software illegal?

Generally no, on company devices, and some states require notice. The question here is whether it tells you anything useful. For recruiters, it mostly does not.

What if a remote recruiter really is slacking?

The three numbers show it within two weeks. Then you have a conversation about submittals and confirmations, with evidence.

Should remote recruiters track time?

Tracking time by order or client is useful for capacity. Tracking time to prove presence is monitoring with extra steps.
