Staffing and recruiting  ·  4 min read

Most new-recruiter anxiety is not about the phone. It is about not knowing whether the work is good. A new recruiter sends a submittal and waits, sometimes for days, to find out from a client or a manager that it missed something. That wait is the anxiety. Managers can end it in week one with two things: a written standard for what a good submittal contains, and a review of every submittal the same day, before it goes out.

How a new recruiter learns: see the standard, write one, get it reviewed in minutes, fix it, send it, repeat twenty times1Show the standardOne good submittal, marked up.2They write oneAgainst a real order.3Review in minutesWhat matches, what is missing.4Fix, then sendBefore the client sees it.Repeat for the first twenty submittals. The training is not a slide deck. It is twenty real submittals with feedback the same hour.
Feedback in minutes replaces days of wondering.

What the anxiety actually is

A new recruiter's day: take an order they are not sure they understood, search for people they are not sure match, write a submittal they are not sure is right, send it, and wait. If the client rejects it, they find out on Thursday that Monday's work was wrong, and they have sent three more like it since.

That is not a confidence problem. It is a feedback problem. Nobody can feel sure about work that is judged days later by someone they cannot see.

What managers usually do, and why it does not help

"You're doing great, keep going." Kind, and useless, because the recruiter knows you have not read the submittal. Or the opposite: reading everything and sending it back with changes, which teaches the recruiter that their work is never right and that the manager is the bottleneck.

What ends the guessing

1. A written standard. One page. The five lines of a proper order. The three lines that open a good submittal, with proof for each must-have. The four lines in every confirmation. Now "good" is a thing the recruiter can look at.

2. Same-day review, before it goes. The recruiter writes the submittal. Someone reads it against the order within the hour and says, in plain words, what matches and what is missing. "The card date isn't there. Add it." The recruiter fixes it and sends it. The client never sees the gap.

3. Twenty times. By the twentieth submittal, the recruiter can see the gaps themselves. The anxiety is gone because the guessing is gone.

For the new recruiter reading this

Ask for the standard. If there is not one, write what you think it is and ask your manager to correct it. Then ask for your next five submittals to be read before they go, not after. You are not asking for hand-holding. You are asking for the fastest way to stop needing it.

For managers: what it costs

Ten minutes a day per new recruiter for a month. In return, fewer rejected submittals, fewer client calls, and a recruiter who is useful in week three instead of month three. And a desk that new people do not leave in the first ninety days because they never knew if they were any good.

How M-Tracker helps

Where M-Tracker fits

The same-day review is the part managers struggle to keep up. M-Tracker reads each submittal against the written order before the manager or client sees it and tells the recruiter, in plain words, which must-haves are answered and which are missing. The new recruiter gets feedback in minutes, on every submittal, from week one, and the manager reviews the pattern instead of every line.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is some anxiety normal for a new recruiter?

Yes. Calling strangers is uncomfortable for everyone at first. The anxiety that does not fade is the not-knowing, and that one is fixable.

Should I tell my manager I am anxious?

Tell them what you need: a standard and fast feedback. That is easier to act on than a feeling.

How long should same-day review continue?

Until the recruiter catches their own gaps, usually twenty to thirty submittals. After that, a tool or a spot check.
