Stop Copying Jira Tasks Into Another To-Do List: A Practical M-Tracker Import Guide
Keep Jira for team coordination and bring eligible tasks into M-Tracker for daily work. Learn what imports, what doesn’t sync, and how to avoid duplicates.
Your team assigns work in Jira. You plan your own day somewhere else. Every morning, you copy issue names into a second list and try to keep both versions current.
This creates two problems: extra entry and uncertainty about which list is right.
M-Tracker’s Jira task import can reduce the copying for eligible issues. It is useful when you want to organize and track your daily work in M-Tracker while Jira remains part of the team’s workflow. It is not a full two-way mirror of everything in Jira.
Knowing that boundary before connecting will save you confusion later.
Decide which tool owns which information
Write a simple agreement. Flip the cards for a split that works for many teams.
This is a suggested operating rule, not an automatic sync guarantee. If the Jira brief changes, you still need to make sure the copy you work from is current.
Avoid using both tools as separate official status systems unless your team has a clear way to keep them aligned. An import can reduce copying without resolving every ownership question.
Know what the current import brings in
The current manual sync imports previously unseen Jira issues assigned to the linked Jira user in Backlog or To Do. It preserves existing M-Tracker task edits rather than overwriting them during later syncs.
Do not assume this is an import of every issue you can see, every completed issue, or every custom status your organization uses. Check a small eligible example first.
The current flow also should not be treated as a bidirectional status, comment, or attachment sync. Use the source Jira issue when you need the latest team discussion.
Connect from M-Tracker and test one issue
Open Tasks, then Integrations. Use the connection option for Jira task import and complete the Jira authorization flow with the account that owns the assigned work.
- Tasks → Integrations
- Jira task import
- Authorize with your work account
- Assigned to you
- In Backlog or To Do
- Look before you copy it manually
After syncing, look for the task in M-Tracker before creating a manual copy. Open it and check whether it contains enough context to work from. Keep a reference to the original Jira issue for current requirements and team decisions.
If your task is too broad for a single work session, define the next useful action in your own plan. Do not change the team’s issue scope silently just to make today’s list smaller.
A worked example

This keeps the tools useful without pretending the connection does more than it does.
Do you want task import or reviews inside Jira?
Two integrations, two different jobs.
The integration menu provides a separate installation option for the issue panel. A Jira administrator handles installation and project setup; each user links their own M-Tracker account for reviews.
Troubleshoot a missing issue before reconnecting
- Is its current status eligible?Backlog or To Do
- Is the connected Jira account the right one?Work vs personal Atlassian account
- Did the sync show an error?Or report another sync is running
- Is the issue assigned to that account? Not a teammate
- Was it imported already?Open the existing task instead
If the task already exists, open that version instead of creating another. If the connection reports an authorization problem, follow the connection flow again as needed.
Do not move a team issue to a different status just to force an import unless that status is genuinely correct for the team’s workflow.
Disconnecting does not delete your work
- 1Future imports stop
- ✓Existing imported tasks stay in M-Tracker, with your edits and recorded time
- ✓The separate Jira panel account link is not removed
- !It is not a cleanup tool for duplicates or a way to uninstall the panel
Imported work is a source list, not a promise to finish everything today. Choose tasks that fit your available time and current priorities. Record work against the right task so the history remains useful.
One plan, without the copying
M-Tracker helps when you can see both the work you selected and the effort it received, without retyping your Jira issues every morning.
You still need to make the priority decision yourself. The import gives you a source list; your daily plan is still yours to choose.

Common questions
Will Sync overwrite my M-Tracker edits?
The current import preserves existing M-Tracker task edits and adds previously unseen eligible issues. Do not rely on it to refresh every field from Jira.
Will completing the M-Tracker task complete the Jira issue?
Do not assume that behavior. Treat the current integration as task import, not a full two-way workflow sync, and update the team’s official status through its agreed process.
Do I need the Jira review panel to import tasks?
No. Task import and the issue panel are separate. You can use either one on its own, or both.
Work you can trust, without redoing it.
Your team gets feedback before work reaches you, or your client.
