Seeing your screen needs software on the device. So check three things: the monitoring policy, a device management profile in your settings, and processes you cannot quit in Activity Monitor or Task Manager. On a company laptop with all three, assume the screen can be captured. On your own laptop with none of them, it cannot.
How screen viewing actually works
Two ways. Monitoring software that takes screenshots on a timer or streams the screen. Or remote access tools, like the ones IT uses for support, which can show a live screen when connected. Both need to be installed. Nobody can see a screen over Wi-Fi alone.
Three checks
The policy. Search your handbook for "screen," "screenshot" or "monitoring." Where it is used, it is usually disclosed.
The profile. A device management profile means IT controls the device and can install software silently.
The processes. Look for names you do not recognize that return when you end them. Search the name. Most monitoring agents are identifiable.
What it means for how you work
Treat the work screen as visible. Personal email, messages and banking belong on your own device. That is good advice even where no monitoring exists.
The better conversation
If your manager wants to see your screen, what they want to know is whether the work is on track. Offer that directly: a daily line on what is done and what is next, and the finished work when it is ready. Most managers take the deal.
Where M-Tracker fits
M-Tracker is the deal, built in. Each task has a brief. The finished work is sent and checked against the brief in a plain review the person sees first. The manager sees what was produced and accepted, from anywhere, without seeing anyone's screen. No screenshots, no keystroke logging, no activity monitoring.
Try M-Tracker free14-day trial. No credit card. No employee surveillance.
Questions people ask
Can my boss see my screen without me knowing?
With installed software, yes, though notice is required in many places. Without software, no.
Does a VPN let them see my screen?
No. A VPN carries traffic; it does not show screens.
Can IT remote in whenever they like?
Usually they can, on managed devices. Most companies log it and limit it to support.
Work you can trust, without redoing it.
Your team gets feedback before work reaches you, or your client.
