Feedback on work template: examples for reports, designs, code and emails

A feedback template for finished work: what works, what to change and why, and what happens next. Includes filled examples for a report, a design, code and a customer email.

Feedback people can act on has three parts: what, why, doWHATPoint at it.“The price change is inparagraph four.”WHYOne reason.“The client reads the firsttwo lines.”DOThe change.“Move it to the firstsentence.”Delete: “Not quite there.” “Tone feels off.” “You always rush these.” “Take another pass.”

Keep what works. Change what matters, with the reason. Say what happens next. Four filled examples below.

Tips

  • Lead with the most important change.
  • One reason per change. The reader, the goal, the brief or a rule.
  • Say what to keep. It stops good parts being rewritten.
  • End the loop. "Send it after these" saves a round.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Should I use the "feedback sandwich"?

Not as a cushion. Say what works because it is useful, not to soften the change.

Written or spoken?

Written for anything with more than one change. People can come back to it.
