Hours calculator
Type each shift's start and end, take off the break, and get the total in hours and minutes and in decimal.
How to use it
- For each shift, enter a start time and an end time.
- Add the break in minutes. Leave it at 0 if there was none.
- Add more shifts with + Add a shift. Remove one with ×.
- Open Add pay to multiply the hours by an hourly rate.
The total updates as you type. Each shift shows its own hours next to it, so a typing mistake stands out.
Converting hours to decimal
Minutes divided by 60 gives the decimal part.
| Minutes | Decimal |
|---|---|
| 15 | 0.25 |
| 20 | 0.33 |
| 30 | 0.50 |
| 40 | 0.67 |
| 45 | 0.75 |
| 50 | 0.83 |
So 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours, and 8 hours 20 minutes is 8.33.
Night shifts
If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator counts it as the next day. 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM with a 30-minute break is 8:00 worked.
When to use the other calculators

- Need the time between two times or two dates? Use the time duration calculator.
