A weekly status report should take 40 seconds to read. Put what is at risk and what you need first, then what got done and what is next. Below are three filled examples, one each for operations, marketing and support. Copy the one closest to your team.
The format all three use
AT RISK · I NEED · DONE · NEXT
Why this order: your reader can act on risks and asks. Done and next are proof. If they only read two lines, they read the two that matter.
Example 1: Operations
Operations · week of June 2 · AlexAT RISK- Warehouse move: the new racking arrives June 12, not June 5. If it arrives by the 12th we still move on the 16th; if not, we slip a week.I NEED- Approval to pay $1,800 for weekend overtime on June 14–15, by Wednesday.DONE- Month-end close finished on day 6 (target 7)- New-hire laptops ordered for all three June starters- Shipping error rate this week: 1.2% (target under 2%)NEXT- Confirm moving crew · finalize racking plan · onboard Sam on June 9
Example 2: Marketing
Marketing · week of June 2 · DanaAT RISK- Pricing page launch: product screenshots are a week late. Launch moves from June 10 to June 17 unless they arrive by Tuesday.I NEED- One message from you to product's lead about the screenshots, by Monday.DONE- Webinar landing page live: 186 sign-ups so far (target 300 by June 12)- Customer email approved and scheduled- Three help articles updated for the new plansNEXT- Second webinar email Tuesday · LinkedIn ads go live Wednesday · FAQ page
Example 3: Customer support
Support · week of June 2 · PriyaAT RISK- Backlog: 64 tickets older than 24 hours (normal: under 20). Cause: the import bug. Fix expected Thursday.I NEED- Nothing this week.DONE- Median first reply: 1 h 10 min (target 1 h)- CSAT: 89% (last week 86%)- New saved replies for the five most common import questionsNEXT- Clear the backlog after the fix · train Jordan on refunds · update the import help article
What makes these work
- Every risk has an "if, then." The reader knows what decides it.
- The ask is one specific thing, from one person, by one time.
- Done items have numbers or links. Proof, not claims.
- No paragraph is longer than three lines.
Write yours in two minutes
Paste your notes or task list into the status report generator. It puts them in this order and flags anything vague.
Stop writing reports from memory
M-Tracker shows what each person finished, what is waiting for review and what came back for changes, from the work itself. Most of the "done" and "next" is already there. You add the risks and the asks. No screenshots and no activity tracking.
