Status and reporting  ·  3 min read

A weekly status report should take 40 seconds to read. Put what is at risk and what you need first, then what got done and what is next. Below are three filled examples, one each for operations, marketing and support. Copy the one closest to your team.

Risks and asks first. Most readers stop after two boxes.

The format all three use

AT RISK · I NEED · DONE · NEXT

Why this order: your reader can act on risks and asks. Done and next are proof. If they only read two lines, they read the two that matter.

5Status and reporting

What makes these work

  • Every risk has an "if, then." The reader knows what decides it.
  • The ask is one specific thing, from one person, by one time.
  • Done items have numbers or links. Proof, not claims.
  • No paragraph is longer than three lines.
6Status and reporting

Write yours in two minutes

Paste your notes or task list into the status report generator. It puts them in this order and flags anything vague.
