Revision request template: ask for changes people can make in one pass
A revision request template that lists each change with where it is, why it matters and what to do, plus what to keep. Copy it and get revisions right in one round.
Number each change. Say where it is, why it matters and what to do. Say what to keep. One clear request saves two more rounds.
When to use it
Any time work comes back for changes: a design, a draft, a report, a page. It works for clients asking an agency, and for managers asking their team.
The template
Revision request · [deliverable] · round [1/2/3] · [date]KEEP AS IS- [What works and should not change]CHANGES (most important first)1. Where: [page, section, line, timestamp] Why: [one reason: the reader, the goal, the brief] Do: [the specific change]2. Where: Why: Do:NOT IN THIS ROUND- [Ideas for later, so they do not sneak in]Next: [send it back by date / no need for another review after these]
A filled example
Revision request · Spring webinar landing page · round 1 · May 6KEEP AS IS- The headline and the speaker photos.CHANGES1. Where: the date line under the headline Why: readers in California saw the wrong time Do: show "June 12, 1 PM Eastern / 10 AM Pacific"2. Where: the sign-up form Why: six fields cut sign-ups last time Do: keep name and email only3. Where: the last section Why: the brief says no pricing Do: remove the pricing tableNOT IN THIS ROUND- A video on the page (next campaign)Next: send it back by Thursday. If these three are done, it is approved.
Tips
- Most important first. If only one change gets made, make it the right one.
- Point, do not describe. Quote the line or give the section.
- Say what to keep. Otherwise good parts get rewritten.
- Say what happens next. "Approved after these" ends the loop.

Questions people ask
How many changes should one request have?
As many as needed, but rank them. More than ten often means the brief was unclear.
Should I explain why?
Yes, in one line. It helps the person fix similar things next time without asking.
Work you can trust, without redoing it.
Your team gets feedback before work reaches you, or your client.
