The ones that grow find clients with proof. A placement story told in numbers, a sample submittal with the names removed, and a fill rate counted honestly. The ones that struggle find clients with "we're different," and every hiring manager has heard that from six agencies this month. Referrals are still the biggest source. Proof is what turns a cold call into one.
The cold call, reenacted
"Hi, this is Jordan from Apex Recruiting. We work with companies like yours."
"We already use an agency."
"Totally understand. The thing is, we're different."
"How?"
"We... really care about quality? And we have a great database."
"Thanks, Jordan."
That call happens ten thousand times a day. Nothing in it gives the manager a reason to believe anything. "Different" is a claim. "Care" is a claim. "Great database" is a claim every agency makes.
The call that works
"Hi, this is Jordan from Apex. Last month we filled five night-shift forklift roles for a cold-storage site about your size. All five are still there. The site lead said it was the first time nobody got sent home for paperwork. I'd like to send you one of the candidate summaries we used, names removed, so you can see how we work. Is that worth two minutes?"
Everything in that call is checkable. A number, a result, a thing the manager can look at. Managers say yes to that because it costs them nothing and they are curious whether it is real.
The three pieces of proof
1. A placement story in numbers. How many, what role, how long ago, how many stuck. One sentence.
2. A sample submittal. Names removed. The first three lines answering the must-haves with evidence. A manager reads it and knows in ten seconds whether your screening is real.
3. An honest fill rate. "We filled 14 of 18 positions last month; 12 stuck past the first week." Honest numbers are rare enough to be memorable.
Where the proof comes from
From the work. You cannot tell a placement story about an order that bounced twice. You cannot send a sample submittal that is a forwarded resume. The firms that find clients easily are the ones whose last ten orders went right, because they have ten stories to pick from.
So the first sales job is the desk's job: written orders, checked submittals, confirmed starts. Sales gets easier a month after quality gets better.
Where M-Tracker fits
Proof is a by-product of work that was checked before it went out. M-Tracker reads each submittal against the client's order before the client sees it, so the sample you send is one that answered the order line by line. A client report, sent as a link, is the placement story in numbers, already written.

Questions people ask
What if I am new and have no placement stories yet?
Fill three orders perfectly for anyone who will give you one, then start calling. Three stories are enough.
Should I lead with price?
No. Price is what you talk about when there is no proof. Lead with the story and the sample.
How many cold calls does it take?
Fewer with proof. Many agencies find one real conversation in twenty calls with "we're different," and one in five with a placement story.
