Why decisions go first

Energy drops as a meeting goes on. If updates come first, the hard question gets the last five tired minutes. Put it first.

Most updates do not need a meeting. Ask people to send a short written update the day before. Use the meeting for what needs talking through.

Rules for a good agenda

  • Write each item as a question. "Delay the launch?" not "Launch."
  • Put a time on each item. Then stick to it.
  • Name who brings it. They come ready.
  • Send it a day early. With anything people should read first.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How long should a team meeting be?

Thirty minutes for most weekly meetings. If it often runs over, the agenda has too much.

What if there is nothing to decide?

Cancel it and send written updates.
